Plum City Care Center seniors stay active

The summer days kept rolling right along as we headed into another Monday morning. Residents assembled in the dining room for Monday Movers seated exercise group and we stretched out stiff muscles to prepare for the busy week ahead. After 30 minutes, we gave our bodies a rest but it was time to exercise our voices at Karaoke Sing Along; our folks sing so beautifully together! After lunch we moved into the afternoon where Crafty Corner saw us making ribbon roses; it was tough to do but they turned out great and the bouquet in the dining room is lovely. A Monday afternoon game of Tic Tac Toss followed soon after and we had quite a crowd of competitors. Shirley Klinski grabbed fourth place, Milda nabbed third and Kay George came in second place. Joann Hubbard had such a shocked look on her face when she found out she was this week’s Tic Tac Toss champion! A little while later we enjoyed a nice supper and then an evening of Bingo with volunteers Teresa Fedie and Kathy Luebker. We are always so grateful for all their help with set up, clean up and candy prize passing!

Tuesday morning began with mass for our Catholic residents after breakfast and we gathered in the dining room with Father Jojo for the service. It’s always such a peaceful and contemplative way to start the day. Thank you to Dick Fritz for reading during the service! Lunch followed, along with distributing mail, and then it was time for our afternoon Popcorn Social with Willow! Residents always love this time of the week; freshly popped popcorn puts a smile on everyone’s face and it’s hard to turn down a bowl of this delicious treat! After the last kernels were claimed and visiting came to a close, everyone prepared for afternoon church. This week, Willow led folks in a hymn sing and everyone gladly sang songs and hymns until it was time for supper. Our Tuesday ended with Willow and residents gathered for evening games!

Wednesday started with a fun game of bowling; even though it was a smaller group than usual, we had no shortage of fun and laughs! After five rounds, Kevin Bauer took fourth place, Yvonne Sinz came in third and Ivan Mason grabbed the second-place spot! Jeff Halverson was our first-place winner this week! Bowling always works up an appetite so we were happy that lunch quickly followed the game. The afternoon brought mail delivery, Fruit Bingo and a Watermelon Wednesday Social! This week a huge thanks goes out to Wanda Ebensperger for helping with Fruit Bingo set-up, clean-up and prize passing. We had Michael Solveson as this week’s winner for blackout! Folks hung around after bingo for our Watermelon Wednesday Social and it was definitely worth the wait: that sweet and juicy watermelon was so delicious it was gobbled up in no time!

The busy week continued Thursday with Local News and Coffee with Lana Ingli stopping by to read us the latest news from the local papers. We always have a little extra time at the end to chat about the good old days and funny stories that we remember from growing up! Residents always enjoy gathering to share their experiences and memories with their neighbors. Lunch kicked off our afternoon and soon after Willow had a line-up of ladies who wanted manicures! Giving our gals a proper amount of pampering took up the majority of the afternoon and once everyone’s nails were dry, it was time for supper. After the evening meal, Willow led folks in a game of Pokeno!

The festive atmosphere continued into Friday morning as Noel engaged residents with a morning game of Shuffleboard. We had a lot of familiar faces join us and it was a close game! Milda Bautch came in fourth place, Dorothy Pfaffe was third and Shirley Klinski grabbed the second-place spot. Alice Brantner was the big first-place winner of the morning! We had so much fun we almost lost track of time and ran into the lunch hour; luckily we didn’t miss our midday meal! The afternoon began with Snack Makers where Noel, along with Chef Jeff {Halverson}, Kevin Bauer and Kay George, made Pigs in a Blanket to prepare for the hungry Happy Hour crowd. Jeff Bechel put on quite the party and we happily sang (and danced!) along to all the lively tunes! After supper, the shades were pulled and the lights were dimmed for “The Little Rascals” at Movie Night!
