James Clifford Halverson, 92, of Red Wing, died Thursday, June 27, 2024 at the Ellsworth Health Services Care Center. He was born April 15, 1931 to Clifford and Vivian (Straub) Halverson in Maiden Rock, Wis. He grew up on the family farm and attended Maiden Rock schools. On Sept. 10, 1949 he married Shirley Mae Hase at Salem Lutheran in Maiden Rock.

A jack of all trades, Jim had many different jobs throughout his lifetime. He worked behind the meat counter at National T Grocery Store, at the Red Wing Creamery, on the Red Wing Police force, Meyer Industries, and finally as a crew manager for the City of Red Wing Public Works. He retired from public works after 21 years.

He was a member of United Lutheran Church where he helped in the kitchen. He volunteered with Faith in Action and was also a member of the Red Men Club.

Jim enjoyed the outdoors. He liked going for walks and in his seventies, took up bike riding. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and spending time at the cabin. He particularly liked watching and reading westerns.

He is survived by his son; Robert (Jean) Halverson of Red Wing; three grandsons, Jeffrey (Traci) Cross Lake, Dustin of Rosemount, and Andrew (Trisha) of Hager City; great-granddaughters, Natalie and Hailey; daughter-in-law, Beverly Halverson; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene (Helen) Hase, Charlotte Borst, Joe Hase and Susie Hase.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; sons, Timm, Randy and Lonnie; and sister, Georgia Buchholtz.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Monday, July 1, 2024 at United Lutheran Church with Reverend Brian Scott officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
