College of Education, Business and Allied Health at UWRF announces 2024-25 faculty excellence awards

RIVER FALLS – College of Education, Business, and Allied Health (CEBAH) at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls faculty members were recently recognized for outstanding contributions in the areas of research, service, teaching, and advising.

The recipients of this year’s faculty excellence awards are:

  • CEBAH Excellence in Research Award: Hiawatha Smith, Ph.D.
    Smith, associate professor of Teacher Education, has been recognized for his prolific research productivity, collaboration, and publication of a foundational text for undergraduate education majors in language arts and literacy and a professional development resource for practicing teachers. It features resources for immediate use by teachers and addresses current hot-button topics related to teaching classic literature, controversial texts, and genre study.
  • CEBAH Excellence in Service Award: Molly Gerrish, Ph.D.
    Gerrish, professor in Teacher Education, as well as the Undergraduate Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity (URSCA) Program director, and Early Childhood Program coordinator, joined UWRF in 2006. She has devoted a tremendous amount of effort to serving her department, college, and the university. Currently, Gerrish serves on numerous internal and external committees.
  • CEBAH Excellence in Teaching Award: Geoff Scheurman, Ph.D.
    Scheurman, professor of Teacher Education, is celebrated for his exceptional teaching, characterized by innovative instructional methods and a deep commitment to student success. His ability to engage and inspire students has set a high standard for educational excellence.
  • CEBAH Excellence in Advising Award: Paul Shirilla, Ph.D.
    Shirilla, associate professor of Health and Human Performance, receives this award for his outstanding commitment to student advising. His thoughtful guidance and mentorship have helped countless students navigate their academic and career paths with confidence.

Faculty excellence awards are chosen by CEBAH faculty and students.

“The faculty recognized this year from across the College of Education, Business, and Allied Health are committed to student success and dedicated to scholarship. Their passion for their work has a profound impact on their students, their colleagues, their fields of study, the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, and the larger community,” said CEBAH Dean Muhammad Chishty.
