Ellsworth Senior Center activities for July 24

The Ellsworth Senior Center would like to invite all senior citizens ages 50 and greater to the following events to be held at the senior center:

Pool Players meet every Monday and Friday from 1-3 p.m.

Euchre Card Players will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 25 and 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8. Beginners are welcome and encouraged to come.

Celebrating Seniors Gathering will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 31. Did you know that what’s good for your heart is also good for your brain? Lifestyle factors that we can modify and control play a large part in reducing our risk for cognitive changes as we age. Join Amy Luther, Dementia Care Specialist from the ADRC (Aging & Disability Resource Center) of Pierce County as she shares information about improving brain health, reducing risk for cognitive decline, and pursuing a well-rounded approach to healthier living.

Discovering Together Tuesday will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 13 with traveler and author, Gail Shore. Shore’s solo trips have taken her through five decades and nearly 100 countries, including destinations as intriguing and unfamiliar as North Korea, Iran, the Amazon, and even Timbuktu. Her new book, “Opening My Cultural Lens,” is the account of her lifetime on the road—an illuminating exploration of the traditions, rituals, and cultures of some of the world’s most remote and fascinating populations. Shore will join us for a book signing and interactive discussion about the places she’s been, the people she’s met and the lessons she’s learned. A luncheon sponsored by the Ellsworth Senior Center and Friends of the Ellsworth Public Library will follow the program.

Our Balanced Wellness Presentation with CJ Young will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21 where she will discuss “Maximizing Everyday Mobility - ABC’s of ADL’s.” What are ADL’s? They are Activities of Daily Living. Come and learn ways to maintain our independence and vitality. We will be covering the importance of the roles of fast and slow twitch muscles, as well as the significance of planes of movement. CJ will bring along her Tanita computer to read our personal Body Composition Readings. We will also be doing some group exercises to help maintain our balance and strength.

Unless otherwise stated, all events are at the Ellsworth Senior Center, located in the basement of the old Ellsworth Public Library (312 W. Main St.) Please park in the back parking lot and enter through the back door.
