Crain-Ottman American Legion Post 207 activities

ELMWOOD – The Elmwood Crain-Ottman American Legion Post 207 is announcing upcoming activities and veteran and youth programs for the remaining calendar year. 

Post 207 is looking for veterans in the Elmwood School District who like to bowl and who may be interested in participating in the upcoming Winter League. Contact Entertainment Officer Jerry Buerkle at 715-308-2867 by Monday, Oct. 21 as time is short for forming a team. 

Post 207 will be offering a $1,000 scholarship to an Elmwood graduating senior who is planning on furthering their education beyond high school. Requirements: A) Have a 3.0 GPA or higher. B) Address two essay questions: What is your definition of Americanism, and What made you decide on your course of study? Post 207 is encouraging high school students to participate in the American Legion Oratorical Contest. Information can be found at https://wilegion.org/oratorical Winner of the State Competition receives a $2,000 scholarship and up to $25,000 as the national winner. Post 207 will host Elmwood High School competitions if any students would like to compete. Contact Commander Thompson to sign up.  

Post 207 is collecting new Christmas toys for distribution to needy families in the area this Christmas season. If you would like to donate toys, or funds to buy toys, contact Commander Thompson. Donations to Post 207 are tax deductible. If you know of a needy family who could use some assistance this holiday season please contact us via phone, email or our Facebook page. 

On Nov. 11 join Post 207 at Elmwood High School at 9 a.m. for a Veterans Day Program honoring the World War II service of two-time Purple Heart recipient Harold Ziehme. A local boy who answered the call of his country, served with distinction, then faded away into obscurity without his family ever knowing his wartime service or story.
