Bruce C. Decheine, age 82 of Baxter, Minn., died on June 27, 2024 at home.

He is survived by his wife Mary, four children: Robert of Washington DC, Susan (John) Koenig of Champlin, Minn., Jason (Laura) of River Falls, Wis., Andrea (Anthony) Bjork of Prescott, Wis., stepson Michael Antosh of Minneapolis, and six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother David, and sister Suzanne.

Bruce was born in Minneapolis to Bernard & Helen Decheine; he was raised in La Crosse, graduating from high school and college there. He attended graduate schools at both the University of Wisconsin and the University of Nebraska.

His entire career was in social work. He worked as a social worker/supervisor or program director for several Wisconsin counties and the State of Wisconsin before accepting a professorship at UW-River Falls in the Sociology Department. Late in his career he worked for the U.S. Army and Air Force in their drug/alcohol programs, almost entirely at posts in Germany. Before his retirement in 2012, he had been working for several years part-time as a “military family life consultant” serving guardsmen, reservists and active duty military personnel within the US and Europe.

Bruce expressed his appreciation of the folks in the AA recovery community; without whose help this obit would have been submitted many years ago.

Pursuant to his wishes, no religious services will be performed.
