Sharon Howie, 84, of River Falls, Wis., formerly of Monticello, Iowa, died peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, Oct. 1 in her home.

Surviving Sharon are her children: Ann (Dennis) Stedman, of Maplewood, Minn., Ralph Robovsky

of Shoreview, Minn. and Robert Howie, River Falls; grandchildren Julia, Dalton, Logan, Riley;

great grandson Cooper; sister Joyce (Jay) Oehlerich, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Minta and Squire, brothers Forrest, Lonnie, John

and Chuck and her beloved husband William (Bill) Howie.

Sharon lived in Onslow, Iowa most of her young life. She worked in the small family grocery store when she was a teen and was a star high school basketball player with a killer jump shot that her brothers taught her. She was often called for traveling because not many girls did jump shots at that time. She graduated from Onslow High School and then attended and graduated from Omaha Business College. She moved to Cedar Rapids in her 20’s and later moved to Monticello, Iowa where she worked for Cuckler Building Systems for over 20 years as only one of three women at Cucklers. She was often the voice of the big stuffed Grizzley bear in the front window. She then went on to work at Citizens State Bank for 10 years. She moved with Bill upon retirement to River Falls to be closer to her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was an avid sports fan and especially loved baseball, including Monticello’s Town Team. She also enjoyed watching Iowa men’s and women’s basketball and the Indy 500. She held the best Christmas Eve parties, and her home was welcome to all. She had a green thumb and loved the outdoors. She loved watching her children and grandchildren in all their activities.

Special thanks to Robert Howie for his constant/loving in home care over the past years and to

St. Croix Hospice for Sharons care during her final days.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date to celebrate and remember Sharon.
