A 90-plus mph police pursuit into Ellsworth Sept. 29 resulted in the arrest of an Eau Claire man who had been arrested the week prior for threatening to kill police officers while leading them around the county with multiple 911 calls for help.

David Alexander Marin, 32, was ordered to pay $500 cash bail Sept. 30 in Pierce County Circuit Court on felony second-degree recklessly endangering safety, felony battery or threat to judge, prosecutor or law enforcement officer, felony bail jumping (three counts), misdemeanor bail jumping, resisting/failing to stop and possess drug paraphernalia charges. If convicted, the maximum penalty is 10 years in prison and/or fines up to $25,000.

According to the complaint:

At 7:28 p.m. Sept. 29, an Pierce County patrol deputy responding to a domestic dispute in Beldenville located a black sedan speeding northbound on Highway 63 approaching Highway 10 in the town of Trimbelle. The vehicle passed three vehicles in a no passing zone near Pierce Pepin. It then turned right and headed toward Ellsworth at more than 90 mph. It passed another vehicle at Main and Old West Main streets in the village and almost hit it. The suspect, continuing down Main at more than 90 mph, almost lost control at Main Street and Pleasant Avenue while attempting to navigate the corner. The black Ford Fusion finally stopped at Main and Crosscut streets.

Deputies ordered Marin out of the vehicle at gunpoint. He complied with orders as he was handcuffed, searched and put into a squad car. Ellsworth officers responded to the scene and Marin remained calm until he saw a certain deputy; they he became hostile.

Due to Marin’s recent threats against law enforcement during a Sept. 13 incident, Prescott K9 Officer Neely and Caesar reported to the scene to search the vehicle. Marin became agitated, yelling that there was fentanyl and cocaine in the car. Caesar positively alerted on the vehicle, at which point officers located four glass smoking devices that tested positive for methamphetamine, multiple cartridges of Narcan, a fentanyl testing kit, multiple packages of needs, vials of Naloxone and multiple shotgun shells.

Marin claimed to need medical attention because he was going to “bitch slap” officers. He also kept referring to himself as the devil and threatened to beat law enforcement. He claimed to be a member of MS12, a gang with violent tendencies. He was also sweating profusely and had dilated pupils. Officers transported him to River Falls Area Hospital for a blood draw where he became emotional and claimed to be afraid.

After the hospital check, deputies transported Marin to Pierce County Jail where he remained cooperative. He told officers he’d made a deal with the devil when he was young and sold his soul.

Marin posted a $10,000 signature bond in Pierce County Circuit Court on felony bail jumping (repeater), felony battery or threat to judge, prosecutor or law enforcement officer (repeater), felony possession of narcotic drugs (repeater), misdemeanor bail jumping (repeater) and possession of cocaine/coca (repeater) charges Sept. 16. If convicted, the maximum penalty he faces is six years in prison and/or fines up to $10,000. Those charges are related to Marin’s multiple calls to 911 Sept. 13 after running out of gas. He would call for help, then threaten to kill or hurt officers when they arrived because he felt they were harassing him.

In Eau Claire County Circuit Court Sept. 24, Marin paid a $250 cash bond on three felony threat to law enforcement officer (repeater), resisting an officer (repeater), misdemeanor bail jumping (repeater) and two felony bail jumping (repeater) charges.

Marni’s next court appearance is a status conference slated for 2 p.m. Oct. 29.
