Prescott is off to a 3-0 start to the year and all three games have been absolute dominance. In the conference opener for the Cardinals, they gave Altoona all they could handle and more in a 34-6 win.

River Falls rebounded nicely from a tough home opener loss, heading out of Superior with a 44-20 win. The Wildcats are 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play after the win. Joseph Tarasewicz rushed for 201 yards and three scores on 34 carries to lead the Wildcats.

Elmwood/Plum City fell to 0-3 after Chetek-Weyerhaeuser took a 26-16 win. EPC led 8-0 after a quarter, but were no match the rest of the game.

Spring Valley won by a forfeit against Colfax to move to an unconventional 3-0 start. A Facebook post from Colfax football did not share a specific reason, but referenced student-athlete safety.

Ellsworth picked up a crucial win to open conference play against St. Croix Central 26-6. Both teams were ranked in the top-10, and Ellsworth proved up to the challenge.

 

Cross Country

At the St. Croix Central Invite on Thursday, Prescott girls landed in third of eight teams and the boys in fourth of nine teams. Ellsworth competed in the boys race and finished right behind in fifth. Spring Valley finished in last during each race.

River Falls went to the Faribault Invitational on Friday, taking on some fierce competition. The boys landed in 10th of 19 teams and the girls placed 12th of 15 teams.


Girls Golf

The Middle Border Conference had its third conference meet of the season Thursday at Krooked Kreek Golf Club in Osceola. Prescott won again, marking a third win in the three events. Prescott also had the top four individual finishers.

Ellsworth landed in third out of eight teams. The Panthers had finished fourth in the first pair of events.

River Falls finished second at the Hudson Invite on Saturday. Mahlia McCane tied for fourth overall with a score of 88.

 

Volleyball

The 12-3 River Falls volleyball team saw a lot of action this week, including a 3-0 conference win over Menomonie. The team also went to the Southwest Minnesota Challenge and finished 3-1 with a loss against Canby.

Spring Valley and Ellsworth got into a five-set battle in Ellsworth on Thursday, and the Cardinals sneaked away with a 3-2 win. It was a 2-0 start for Ellsworth, but Spring Valley rallied back to take the last three sets. Spring Valley is 6-1 on the season and Ellsworth is 1-5.

Prescott went 0-3 at the St. Croix Falls Quad on Tuesday. EPC has gotten off to a strong start to the season and a 2-0 day Thursday kept it going.

 

Boys Soccer

After the comeback win over Chippewa Falls, River Falls soccer was no match for Wausau West on Friday, losing 5-0. River Falls now holds a 3-1-1 record on the season with a win in their lone conference battle.

Swim & Dive

River Falls competed in their first event Aug. 24 in Menomonie, where they placed eighth of 10 teams. The team then had an extended break before competition resumes Sept. 10 for a home meet.

Tennis

The tennis season is well underway, and teams are entering conference play, with some important matchups happening over the coming weeks.
