Prescott Community Club honors Students of the Week

The Prescott Community Club Student of the Week for Sept. 9 was junior Alexandra Tibayan, nominated by Prescott High School staff.

Tibayan was nominated by PHS Staff to be the WILS Representative last year for her great leadership skills. WILS is a local 501c3 nonprofit volunteer organization that identifies outstanding high school sophomore leaders from throughout Wisconsin and provides them with the opportunity and encouragement to recognize and develop their leadership potential. The students selected to attend are provided this opportunity because they have demonstrated themselves to be responsible citizens in their community and thoughtful individuals in their school. In our society, a great deal of attention and media exposure is given to young adults who act negatively. WILS is set up to provide recognition and growth opportunities to students who act positively and acknowledge that we value their contributions made now and those they will make in the future.

Alexandra (Ally) is the daughter of Kristin & Fernando Tibayan. She is a member of the St. Croix Stars 4-H club, A Capella Choir, Inclusivity Club, National Honor Society, Ski & Snowboard Club, Speech team and Student Council. She has been named to the honor roll and participates in the school musicals.

Tibayan said she likes to hike and loves music. She plans to attend a four-year college.

The Student of the Week for Sept. 16 was senior Abby Barksdale, nominated by English teacher Tracey Budworth.

“In the little time I have known her, Abby has shown a great deal of initiative,” said Budworth. “She is a bright, creative, responsible, respectful young woman. Abby is very goal-oriented which is a vital trait for success. I’m looking forward to getting to know her better this year in Multimedia Journalism!”

Abby is the daughter of Robert and Julie Barksdale. She enjoys swimming and dogs and works on the school yearbook. She is undecided in her future plans.

The Student of the Week for Sept. 23 is Prescott High School senior Claire Schommer, nominated by art teacher Anne Kressly.

“Claire is a talented and dedicated artist,” Kressly said. “She is also a leader in the class and willing to help others explore techniques and processes.”

Claire is the daughter of Brad & Tiffany Schommer. She works at Stella Dance Studio and is a member of the PHS dance team. The honor roll student also participates in Book Club, National Honor Society, Yearbook and Spanish Club. She enjoys reading and listening to music.

Her future plans include attending a four-year college to major in biology.
