Ellsworth Lions: Garage sale results, vision screening and more

The Ellsworth Lions Club is thrilled to share the results of its recent garage sale. We collected items from members and sold them for monetary donations. We also offered fresh baked goods and coffee to our shoppers. The proceeds of the sale were given to Basics for Local Kids and we presented them with a check for $1,354. We wish to thank Zion Covenant Church for hosting the sale. Our next sale will be held April 24-26, 2025.

Ellsworth Lions will be offering vision screening to EES and St. Francis students, pre-K through grade 2, on Tuesday, Oct. 15 beginning at 8a.m. New this year, we will be offering vision screening at the Ellsworth Public Library in Room 110 at approximately 1 p.m. or as soon as we finish the students at the schools. Early detection of eye diseases is critical and a main focus of Lions since Helen Keller challenged the organization to eliminate blindness back in 1925. There is no charge to be screened and we do not keep any record of the findings. The school nurse handles all records from the morning session. At the library, we will offer the findings to the accompanying adult of children screened. Should a child need corrective lenses, the Lions have resources to assist with exams and lenses. We are pleased and proud to serve our community in this initiative.

The annual Lions International Peace Poster contest is still open with entries due to Lions Sharlene Kreye or Kristi Miller by Oct. 25. The theme is “Peace Without Limits.” Youth participants must be ages 11, 12 or 13 on Nov. 15, 2024 to enter. The full rules are posted on our Facebook page. Ellsworth Lions welcome entries from youth residing in the 54011 zip code. We offer cash prizes and forward our top entry to the District level. District winning entries proceed to the International level where the Grand Prize is $5,000 and Merit Awards will be given to 23 entrants with a $500 prize. If you have questions about the contest, please message us on Facebook or email us at EllsworthLions@gmail.com.

The Ellsworth Lions are a part of Lions International. For over 100 years, Lions have served with uncommon kindness, putting the needs of our neighbors, our communities, and our world first. Through the incredible work of our Lion and Leo members, and the support of our association and our global foundation, we are serving a world in need together.
